World Randomizer

What you need

These pages work on their own in any browser: rolling characters, looking at the map and updating config files need nothing installed. To play what they give you, your server needs the module.

Required

AzerothCore (WotLK 3.3.5a)

The server the modules are built into. azerothcore-wotlk

Required

mod-world-randomizer

The module these pages are made for: the world shuffle, rolls, co-op starts, hardcore and achievements. mod-world-randomizer

Works better with

mod-dynamic-scaling

Optional. Makes dungeons and the open world scale to each player inside the brackets the randomizer gives them (see below). mod-dynamic-scaling

Optional

The addons

RandomizerAchievements and DynamicScaling, for the game client. Everything also works with chat commands (see below).

Based on

UncleChimpus's YouTube series HC Randomized WoW:

A recreation of the series' ideas for AzerothCore (WotLK 3.3.5a): mod-world-randomizer rebuilds the shuffled world and the achievements with their rewards, and adds the TBC and Wrath versions, co-op starts, rolls and these pages.

Made with the help of Claude, Anthropic's AI assistant: written and reviewed together with it, then tested and published by Ryan Turner (TheSCREWEDSoftware).

What each page needs from the server

PageIn gameServer settings
Character roller Tie a character to its roll: .randomizer roll <code> <player> or the addon's "My roll". Start where the page says: .coop create <zone>, .coop join <code> or .coop alone <zone> (or the addon's Group tab). Randomizer.Roll.Enable, Randomizer.Coop.Enable. Start zones match the server only with the same world seed and shuffle settings as on the World map page.
World map Shows the world your server builds for a seed: which zones are in which level bracket. Randomizer.World.Enable = 1, and the seed, brackets and scope the page shows (it gives the lines to paste).
Achievements What you can earn in game, and its rewards (.rach, or the addon). Randomizer.Achievements.Enable; Randomizer.Achievements.Expansion picks which versions count.
Config update Nothing in game: it updates your .conf file for mod-world-randomizer or mod-dynamic-scaling. None. Put the new file in your server's configs/modules and restart.

With or without mod-dynamic-scaling

Both modules work alone. Installed together, with their collective switches on (Randomizer.Collective.DynamicScaling and DynamicScaling.Collective.WorldRandomizer, both on by default), they split the work. Turn either switch off and they ignore each other.

mod-world-randomizer aloneWith mod-dynamic-scaling
Open world Each zone gets a new level bracket. Its creatures are replaced by creatures of that bracket, and the ones that stay (quest targets, scripted ones) move their level into it. Levels are the same for everyone. Creatures also follow each player's level and .scaling choice, but never leave the zone's bracket: a level 1 player in a 1-10 zone meets level 1 creatures, a level 9 one level 9s (DynamicScaling.Collective.WorldScaling, on by default).
Dungeons Follow the bracket of their entrance zone. By default (Randomizer.Dungeons.Mode = 2) their creatures scale to the group's highest level, inside that bracket, bosses still above their trash. mod-dynamic-scaling does that instead, in its Simple mode: the same bracket, plus extra stats and spell power for every missing player, so small groups can clear them.
Players choose Nothing to choose: the shuffled world is the same for everyone. Each player picks Simple, Advanced or no scaling (.scaling, or the DynamicScaling addon).
Also Quests, quest rewards and drops follow the zone's new levels; hardcore, co-op starts, rolls, achievements. All of that, plus mod-dynamic-scaling's own features: dungeons for fewer players, entering at any level, coming back alive at the dungeon entrance, XP for gray kills in scaled zones, cooldown resets.

The addons

For the WoW 3.3.5 client: unzip into Interface\AddOns. Each one checks that the server runs its module and turns itself off if not, and tells you in chat when its version doesn't match the server's. The server needs AddonChannel = 1 in worldserver.conf (the default).

RandomizerAchievements

Needs mod-world-randomizer. Download

  • The account-wide achievements, with icons, rewards and progress, for you and your group (/randach, or the minimap button).
  • A popup when you earn one, like the game's own.
  • My roll: tie this character to its roll from the Character roller (the code from this site).
  • Group tab: start alone or with a co-op party, pick your start zone, and see your party: level, race, class, zone and roll.
  • Opens the talent frame before level 10 when the server gives talent points earlier.

Without it: .rach, .randomizer roll and .coop in chat.

DynamicScaling

Needs mod-dynamic-scaling. Download

  • Asks on login which leveling experience you want: No Scaling, Simple or Advanced.
  • A window (/dscale, or the minimap button) with your choice and the creatures around you: their own level, and what they would be for you in Simple and Advanced.

Without it: .scaling simple, .scaling advanced or .scaling off in chat.
